July 30, 2020 Meet Genevieve Butenshon - A Member of the Call Committee

My husband, Keith, and I have been attending Christ Church since we moved here in the Spring of 2017.  As many of you know, I am a member of The Daughters of the King and also active in the Choir - Keith and I are both classically trained singers, and we have enjoyed contributing to our services. I’ve been in banking for over 25 years – 23 with Columbia Bank, where my last position was VP/Branch Manager - and I now work at CalPrivate Bank as a Client Services Officer. Keith was a police officer in LA, and is now in the beginning stages of appreciating retirement. Keith’s father was a Lutheran Pastor and Navy Chaplain, so we come from a strong Lutheran background – always very involved in church, including serving as Youth Ministers for 13 years. However, we became Episcopalians about 4 years ago following a difficult break from our Lutheran Church in Astoria, Oregon.  So… as a new Episcopalian and “Coronadian”, I often refer to myself as the “Newbie” on the Calling Committee! I feel blessed to also serve as the Chaplain for the committee – leading each meeting in opening and closing prayers….as well as frequently a centering prayer during meetings.  We all understand the vital importance of keeping in mind God’s Holy Spirit throughout this process.

It is an honor to serve with such an articulate, intelligent and well-rounded group of people.  Though we have different opinions and perspectives, our respect for each other and commitment to choosing the right Rector for Christ Church is unwavering.  We know that the Holy Spirit will continue to guide our discernment.

I’ll close with one of my favorite Bible verses:  For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.  Jeremiah 29:11

With gratitude,

Genevieve Butenshon
