March 22, 2021 Holy Week and Easter at Christ Church
You are invited to deepen your journey through Holy Week by participating in the services and opportunities below.
Palm Sunday, also called Passion Sunday, in the Christian tradition, the first day of Holy Week and the Sunday before Easter, commemorating Jesus Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
Christ Church will hold its Maundy Thursday service, April 1 at 12:00 noon in the church courtyard.
Christ Church parishioners are also invited to participate in the Maundy Thursday service at St. Luke's, North Park Thursday evening. This will be a dinner service at tables in pandemic-spaced outdoor dining. The service will include Maundy Thursday scripture readings and a sermon or reflection. Space is limited and reservations are required. If you would like more information or would like to attend contact Sandy in the parish office.
Good Friday is the day that Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It occurs on the Friday before Easter and is often observed as a day of sorrow, penance, meditation, and fasting. Christ Church will worship on Good Friday, April 2 at 12:00 noon, in the Christ Church courtyard.
This Good Friday, April 2nd, you are invited to meet your Christ Church family at the parking lot of the Tijuana Estuary in Imperial Beach at 3:00 p.m. Together we will walk and pray the stations of the cross. This 4.5 mile hike takes us by the Navy base and down to the water. Sneakers, water bottles and waivers required.
Families are invited to the Christ Church courtyard on Holy Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Wear your coziest sweatshirt and bring your beach chairs. Together we will dye eggs with shaving cream, watch the Easter Vigil video produced by our diocesan youth and assist with the final preparations for Easter Sunday. This special evening is the perfect way to prepare your heart for the resurrection on Sunday.
Come celebrate the resurrection with your Christ Church family at two Easter Sunday services in the church courtyard - the 6:00 a.m. Great Vigil and the 10:00 a.m. Easter service.
Flowering of the Cross this year will take place just outside the gate on C Avenue. Bring your fresh cut blooms to adorn the cross that will reside in the Memorial Garden beginning that afternoon.
