Jo Hunsaker

My husband Phil and I have been members of Christ Church since l981 when our daughter Sarah began attending CCDS. At the day school I quickly became involved in several different roles, from parent’s association treasurer, writing the first WASC accreditation report, developing by-laws for the school board and later serving as President of the CCDS board. At the church level, I served on two calling committees, was on the vestry as the junior warden when Edward Harrison was rector. Currently I volunteer at the Thrift Shop, am a Eucharistic minister and a reader. At the diocesan level, I was elected to the Diocesan Council and served as President. I also served nine years on the board of directors for Episcopal Community Services.

Currently I am a Professor of Management in the School of Business at the University of San Diego. I recently stepped down from my role as department chair after 14 years, and have returned full time to teaching. Christ Church is my spiritual home; it centers and blesses me. I am excited to be considered for the vestry during this important time of transition. We have remarkable and talented lay ministries and I believe our vestry should encourage and focus on ways to support and develop additional lay leadership.

Chris Ellinger

I'm originally from Sleepy Hollow NY and come from a small family (the only child of two only children). After graduating from college, I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1991 and got commissioned in 1993. I am still on active duty and currently serve as the Command Inspector General for MCRD San Diego. Jennifer, who is also an active duty 06, and I married in 1995 and we have two children; Madelyn 19 and Hayden 13. We have lived in CA, RI and VA.

We first came to Coronado in 2003 upon receiving orders to the Amphibious base. We fell in love with Coronado immediately, joined Christ Church and bought a home. We joined Christ Church as I was raised Episcopal and we enjoyed the church and its congregation. From the Linderman's to Edward to Anne, we have also enjoyed the Reverends. Monica was especially dear to us during a tough time for the family. We received orders in the summer of 2005 and wouldn’t return until fall 2010. We have been here continuously since then.

Jennifer served on the Vestry a few years ago. I have also committed to serving on the Christ Church School Board. Other things that take up my time; Island Beer Club and The Coronado Detachment of the Marine Corps League.

Connie Lawthers

I am a life-long Episcopalian and a transplant East Coaster. I was baptized at St. Margaret’s Church in Washington, D. C. and confirmed in a chapel of the National Cathedral in D.C. My father was an Episcopal Priest in the Washington D. C. area and in other number of dioceses in the Northeast. I moved to San Diego county in 1979 and my first job in this area was as the soprano soloist here at Christ Church, until 1983. I later gave up the difficult life of a professional musician and part-time college professor and got a Master’s of Library Science. I worked as a civil servant for the City of Chula Vista for 30 years, first as a Librarian then as a Network Administrator/Security specialist. My husband (Mac Collins) was the rector of St. Mark’s in City Heights, where he worked closely with the rectors of Christ Church over the years. When he retired, we spent some time thinking about where we would worship, and decided upon Christ Church. I love Christ Church not only for the great people I’ve met, but even more importantly, for the opportunity to serve. I sing in the wonderful choir and love my “retail job” volunteering at the Thrift Shop. I see Christ Church as an outward-facing parish, and I think serving on the vestry will be a new way to serve both you, my friends and fellow congregants, and the communities of Coronado and San Diego. I believe that Christ calls us to put our faith into action and our words into deeds, and as a vestry member I hope to do so.
