July 28, 2020 A New Carillon for Christ Church

Have you noticed? We haven't heard our carillon for some time. Traditionally it chimed at the hour and in days past it played wonderful music selections. During the 2014 Capital Campaign new compact speakers replaced the giant unit we used to have on the roof, but the main electronic unit was not replaced and finally gave up the ghost.
Funds specifically designated for the care and replacement of the carillon are held in a trust. The Vestry made the decision in June to use some of those funds to upgrade to a new state-of-the-art system that will provide lovely music and bells for Christ Church and the community for many years to come. The unit was installed Thursday, July 23.
Keep your ears open for some sweet sounds. The unit has been programmed to now chime the Doxology followed by two verses of a hymn that will change daily through the week, and reflect the liturgical season, as appropriate. Thank you to our organist Geoff Graham who has been instrumental in seeing this project through.
The bell schedule he has created for August is wonderful and we hope the entire community enjoys it! Here it is for your enjoyment:
Sunday - Bells commence at 12 noon with the hourly chime, followed by (at 12:03 p.m.) - Eternal Father, Strong To Save and America the Beautiful
Monday-Saturday - Bells commence at 8:00 a.m. with hourly chime through 6:00 p.m. At noon, following the hourly chime, the daily song selections are (at 12:03 p.m.)
  • Monday - Fairest Lord Jesus
  • Tuesday - Let All Things Now Living
  • Wednesday - Anchors Aweigh
  • Thursday - Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun…
  • Friday - Bicycle Built For Two
  • Saturday - Summertime (Gershwin)
At 6:00 p.m. the hourly chime will conclude for the day, Sunday through Saturday with the Doxology.
