Nov. 15, 2021 Wonder-Filled Wednesdays

In just a matter of weeks, we will be moving into the new church year. The season of Advent begins on November 28th. On that day we will begin traveling through the Gospel of Luke, the hangings will change to blue, and most importantly, we will return to worshipping in our beautiful church. After a season of separation and constant changes, we will return to that familiar, beloved space. It will be wonderful to worship there together!

That is not the only exciting thing that will begin in the season of Advent. We will also begin Wonder-filled Wednesdays, an all ages christian formation evening that will offer the opportunity not only to deepen our faith, but also to dine together and to serve together.

You can expect a full roll-out of the theme for the week in Grace Notes. Below is a timeline for Wednesdays followed by a brief description.

5:00pm-6:00pm - Godly Play for Children Junior Kindergarten - 5th Grade

5:00pm-6:00pm - Middle School Youth Group

5:30pm-6:00pm - Evening Prayer in the Sanctuary

6:00pm-6:30pm - Parish Dinner in Hinde Hall

6:30pm - 7:30pm - High School Youth Group

6:30pm - 7:30pm - All Ages Service Project

7:30pm - 7:45 pm - Compline in the Courtyard

Our children in Junior Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to Godly Play from 5:00 - 6:00 pm on Wednesday evenings in Clare’s Cottage. Please arrive a few minutes before 5:00 pm to sign your children in and provide a contact phone number and location where you will be during their time in Godly Play.

During the season of Advent we will spend each week preparing for Jesus’ birth through connection and wonder.

But what is Godly Play?

Godly Play is a creative, imaginative approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance. It nurtures participants to larger dimensions of belief and faith through wondering and play. Godly Play values process, openness, discovery, community and relationships.

Young people in grades 6-8 are invited to Youth Group Clare’s Cottage from 5:00 - 6:00 pm on Wednesday evenings.

The Middle School Youth Group is currently using the Echo the Story curriculum from Sparkhouse. This curriculum allows young people to listen to scripture in a new way, consider their response to what they have heard, and think about what applications it has in their own lives.

Young people in grades 9-12 are invited to Youth Group in Clare’s Cottage from 6:30 - 7:30 pm on Wednesday evenings.

During Advent the High School youth group will explore the colors and emotions of Advent. Together we will prepare for Jesus’ birth looking through a kaleidoscope of purple, blue, rose, and gold. We will walk with kings and expectant mothers.

We will prepare to enter the mystery walking closely with each other and with God.

Wonder-filled Wednesdays will also offer dinner to participants. Dinner will run from 6:00 - 6:30 pm and be hosted by one of our Christ Church ministries. That ministry will also offer a post-dinner opportunity for service from 6:30 - 7:30 pm

In a season of thinking about gifts, the opportunity to put your hands to use serving others is one that we hope will appeal to many of our families. A full explanation of each week’s offerings will be available next Tuesday. The themes and hosts for each week are listed below.

December 1 - Tidings of Comfort and Joy - The SMILE Committee

December 8 - Peace on Earth - Service Ministry

December 15 - Joy to the World - Peace and Justice Ministry

December 22 - Deck the Halls - Altar Guild

There is no cost to dinner each evening. We hope this time of fellowship and service is a blessing to your family!

There will be two opportunities to worship together on Wednesday evening.

Evening Prayer will be held in the church at 5:30 pm

Compline will be held under the twinkling lights of the courtyard at 7:30 pm
