June 8, 2020 Waking Up White - Book Study and Conversation

Our Christian Formation and Service Ministry teams are joining together to invite you to a parish-wide book study to help us learn about and discuss racism. We’ve selected the book Waking Up White, and Finding Myself in the Story of Race by Debby Irving, one woman’s story of how she came to a recognition of racism and her own white privilege.  The book is very readable and comes complete with discussion questions.

In last week’s pastoral letter about the killing of George Floyd and the riots across our nation and the world, Father Michael said, “We can no longer simply do nothing, stand idly by, turn a blind eye, a deaf ear, or hide behind our white protected status.” We must commit to the work of deepening our understanding of racism in America.

Please join us! Our first parish-wide introductory meeting will be held via Zoom on Thursday, June 18 at 5:30 pm (you can join by phone if you don’t have Zoom). We will begin reading the book together after this meeting. Smaller discussion groups will meet on different dates/times so we can hopefully accommodate everyone’s schedule. This book is in high demand; if you have not been able to obtain a copy by June 18, join us anyway!

For more information, and to sign up for the first Zoom gathering, please complete the form in this link.
