Aug. 5, 2020 Meet Bill Huck - A Member of The Call Committee

Christ Church and its Day School have been among the most important things in our lives since Joanie and I moved our family to Coronado in 1986. All three of our now-grown kids, Ashley, Myles and Evan attended and loved CCDS. During our first 30 years in town, most of our close friends we met at Church and/or had kids attending the Day School. Joanie was very active at CCDS and started such extracurricular activities as the art program with Leslie (still ongoing), a musical instrument program and an after-school activity called “Girls in the 90’s” that provided a safe, welcoming opportunity for 5th and 6th grade girls. Joanie continues to work hard for CCDS as a member of the school board.

I was raised in Phoenix, and was lucky enough to be among the “Zonies” who vacationed in Coronado for a week each August to escape the desert heat. Joanie is from a large Catholic family in Indiana, who went to graduate school at Arizona State. We met through a mutual friend at ASU while I was flying airplanes at Barbers Point Naval Air Station on Oahu. About a year and a half later we married while I was completing my 7 years of Navy service at NAS Brunswick, Maine. We then moved back to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I completed my grad school and we started a family. In 1986, when my business partners asked me to manage our firm’s San Diego office, I jumped at the chance to introduce Joanie and the family to Coronado, and Christ Church. It’s be heaven ever since.

I’ve had the pleasure of starting a small real estate development business with three active projects on the East Coast. These projects give me an opportunity to feed my appetites for travel, friends, good food, decent wine and active fun. Our kids have now spread themselves to Jackson, Wyoming (where this photo was taken), Denver and (fortunately) Imperial Beach. We’re expecting our first grandchild in January!

Serving on the Call Committee is both an important responsibility and a great pleasure. Under the very capable leadership of Julie Young and Matt Rich, we are a diverse group who enjoy working together and are prayerfully hopeful of recommending a new Rector who will be a warm, inspiring and capable leader for many years.
