April 23, 2018 ECS Day and Mother’s Day Diaper Drive

Sunday, May 13, isn’t just Mother’s Day this year, it’s also ECS Day at Christ Church!

Episcopal Community Services (ECS) has been faithfully serving our brothers and sisters in need here in San Diego for 90 years. ECS provides more than $27 million in health and human services in the areas of homelessness, mental health, poverty, addiction, and early childhood education to more than 8,000 clients in San Diego. Operating under its mission of serving God by serving those in need through programs that foster hope, dignity, and independence, ECS inspires children, empowers adults, and transforms communities.

Deann Rios, ECS’s Community Engagement Coordinator, with be with us at both services on ECS Day, May 13, to share information about their programs and transformational work. Two of ECS’s most important programs serve the most vulnerable in our community—our children. Para Las Familias supports preschool children and their families struggling with trauma and behavior challenges and ECS’s vibrant Head Start preschool programs help low-income families get their children an early start in school to pave the way for future academic success.

Christ Church is holding a diaper drive from May 6-13 to benefit ECS moms with children in these programs. Look for the playpen in the courtyard the first two Sundays in May, the 6th and 13th, and drop in your donation of diapers. All sizes are welcome—from newborn to toddler pull-ups. You can also bring diapers to the church office Monday–Thursday, May 7-17.
