Feb. 20, 2020 Annual Report 2019

The family of God, the body of Christ

And a crowd was sitting about him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers and sisters are outside, asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking around on those who sat about him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother.                   Mark 3:32-35

I’m the oldest of five siblings. We each were endowed with different gifts and talents by God and called to different paths in life. I had my career in the military, one brother was a cartographer, another Wall Street banker, my sisters; a teacher in a rural village, and a neurological pediatric nurse in a big city. What we have in common is our unconditional love and devotion to each other that supports and encourages through the best and the worst of times. That’s my family.

St. Paul, in his letters to the early Christian communities frequently described the church as being a family, the earthly body of Christ. “Just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body and all were made to drink of one Spirit.”               1 Corinthians 12

“So, in Christ we, though many, form one body, one family, and each of us belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, give encouragement; if it is giving, give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Rom 12

WE ARE FAMILY is our theme in this stewardship season. We are endowed by God with spiritual gifts to be used by us to accomplish God’s work in the world. We are called to live and worship and serve together. And to love, care, nurture, and encourage each other to be faithful stewards of the time, talent, and treasure that we have been given by the grace of God.

This Annual Report offers a glimpse of how our Christ Church family manifests the Spirit at work in our individual and collective lives. I encourage you to read this report carefully and prayerfully, giving thanks for all the ways that our family has responded, regardless of age, gender, background, life-long member or new member, or visitor.

And the greatest gift of the Spirit is love.
