The Naked Now by Richard Rohr - Book Discussion. Discover the lost tradition of mystical Christianity. The enlightenment you seek in other religions has been present in Christianity from the beginning. Richard Rohr, a global leader in spiritual awakening, helps you recognize the forces (such as ego resistance and dual thinking) that separate you from your deeper self. There are a number of books available in the Christ Church library on the subject of Christian Mysticism. Take a look...
Icon Writing Workshop - Monday-Friday, July 19-23 , 2010
Class hours: 8:30am-4:30 pm
Cost: $400, includes all materials and lunch
Location: Christ Church, Coronado
Led by Iconographer Teresa Harrison
Experience the intense spirituality of creating an icon in a contemplative week of fellowship and creativity. Icon writing is an ancient spiritual discipline in which the process and the finished work inspire prayerful meditation. This five-day intensive workshop takes the student from a blank prepared board to the gilding of a finished icon. Each participant will recreate an icon in the ancient Byzantine style using 23 ct. gold leaf and Jo Sonia acrylic paint on gessoed wood panels. No artistic experience is required to participate fully in this spiritual journey. In the Orthodox tradition, the icon is a link between the human and the divine. It provides a space for the mystical encounter between the person before it and God. Thus, the act of creating or “writing” an icon is a process bound up with prayer and reflection as the “writer” sees the image gradually emerge from the blank surface as if from another spiritual realm. Each day begins withEucharist and group discussion, followed by painting in a contemplative atmosphere with step by step painting instruction. Communal lunch is served at noon. The week ends with a Eucharistand blessing ofthe finished icons.
To allow for individual instruction, this workshop is limited to 14 participants.

Christian Formation Ministry
Christ Church has established the Christian Formation Ministry to shape and sustain our education programs. In the near-term, the ministry will focus on providing qualified, enthusiastic leaders for our child and youth education offerings. At the same time, we will be working to expand opporutnities for all of our church family to enrich their lives through Christian education. These opportunities exist within our parish, our diocese, and our community. Ministry members include Steve Crawford (chair), Lissy Rooney, Barbara DeMichele, Louise Cate, Alex de la Lama, Caleb French, Hester Held, Joanie Huck, and Phil Hunsaker (Vestry representative.) Feel free to provide any of the ministry members with your thoughts or desires on how we can deliver Christian Education in a forum that lifts your spirit!
The Christian Formation Ministry Charter: The Christian Formation Ministry seeks to provide lifelong opportunities to grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord and supports programs that provide educational opportunities and resources to parishioners of all ages at Christ Church. Specifically, the Christian Formation Ministry shall:
- Offer coordinated, intentional and well-developed educational ministry for children, youth and adults.
- Enrich celebration of liturgical seasons through education.
- Connect with Diocesan education programs.
- Provide opportunties for spiritiual renewal.
