ALTAR GUILD
The Altar Guild is responsible for the preparation of the Sanctuary for all services in the church. Twenty members serve on teams with two week periods of duty each quarter. The decorating of the church at Easter and Christmas is a Guild responsibility. A Guild member serves as flower chairman overseeing the scheduling of memorial and gift flowers for the church. Membership is by appointment of the Rector. Interested persons should speak to a member of the Altar Guild or the Clergy.
We welcome new members. Anyone interested please call the church office. Thank you!

CHRIST CHURCH DAY SCHOOL
Christ Church Day School was founded in 1957 and has a capacity for 126 students. The school, which has children in junior kindergarten through sixth grade, is dedicated to excellence in academics, as well as providing a firm teaching in those values reflective of our Judeo-Christian tradition.
After years of hard work on the part of administrators, teachers, staff and volunteers, Christ Church Day School earned the highest accreditation-level possible through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the spring of 1998, 2003 and again in 2010.
The school is open to all, regardless of religion, and is one of the major Outreach programs of the Parish. Some scholarship assistance is available. There is an active Parent's Association and a Day School Board, which regulates the policies of the school. The Day School office is located upstairs in the School Building. Mrs. Nancy Roberts is Headmistress, Mrs. Barbara Kassir is Administrative Assistant, and Mrs. Nancy Iverson is Directress of Admissions. Visit the Christ Church Day School website at www.ccds.org.
DAUGHTERS OF THE KING
Perhaps you have noticed the silver crosses worn by several of the women at Christ Church. These women are members of the Pilgrims of Christ Chapter of the Daughters of the King, an order for women in the Episcopal Church.
When each member became a daughter after a 3-month study period, she made a vow of prayer and service, leading to evangelism - sharing her faith with others as she works to live out our Baptismal vows. The prayer slips in the pews many be used to request confidential prayers from the daughters. The slips may be deposited in the alms basin or given to any daughter wearing her cross.
The Daughters of the King meet for prayer, fellowship and study once a month. If you are interested in their work and ministry, or need urgent prayer for any reason, call the church office.
If you have a special prayer request you can submit it on-line to
JOURNEY TO ADULTHOOD / RITE 13
Journey to Adulthood
“Manhood and womanhood are gifts from God, but adulthood must be earned.”
This phrase is a cornerstone of the Journey to Adulthood program used in many Episcopal parishes throughout the nation. Published by LeaderResources, the curriculum encourages teenagers to discover God’s gift of creation and its place in their adult lives. Christ Church, Coronado embarked on this journey beginning in 2003; four years later, the program continues to grow as the entire parish discovers the curriculum’s value for both the teenagers and their community. The entire Journey to Adulthood curriculum spans six years and includes three programs that run concurrently: Rite 13, Journey to Adulthood (J2A), and Young Adults in the Church (YAC).
Beginning the journey in the 6th or 7th grade, Rite 13 presents manhood and womanhood as gifts to be celebrated, while remaining mindful of the responsibility that Christians bear as stewards of their own bodies, our society, and our world. Psalm 139 is at the center of this celebration: “I will thank you because I am marvelously made; your works are wonderful, and I know it well.”
In both Rite 13 and J2A, each group has two adult leaders: one man and one woman. The purpose of the male/female leadership team is to represent adult friendships while modeling and articulating “adult skills.”
After two years in Rite 13, the youth remain together as a group and move on to Journey to Adulthood. Of note, the pair of adult leaders that served as their role models for Rite 13 is replaced by another male/female team. Furthermore, no leadership team includes a parent of the youth in that group. This provides the teenagers with greater access to other adult role models in the parish. LeaderResources compares this opportunity to the three days that the young Christ spent in the Temple “sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions.” (Luke 2:46)
After four years in the curriculum and the completion of the J2A portion of the program, the teenagers embark on a pilgrimage to “a holy place in a distant land.” In 2005, eight Christ Church youth and four adult leaders completed a pilgrimage to the island of Iona in Scotland. Earlier this summer, four youth and two leaders from Christ Church joined with St. Peter’s, Del Mar for a pilgrimage to Canterbury and Lindisfarne in England. The pilgrimage provides the young adults with the opportunity to discover the meaning of Boethius’ words from the 6th century: “Thou are the journey, and the journey’s end.”
This fall, Christ Church will introduce the final portion of the curriculum: Young Adults in the Church. This program builds on the celebration and focus of the previous four years, and places responsibility for study and development on the shoulders of the youth. With adult mentors standing ready to listen, watch, encourage, and build friendships, the teenagers continue their journey with a growing sense of autonomy and a firm foundation in the Christianity.

ST. MARY'S GUILD
St. Mary's Guild meets the second Tuesday of every month - September through May. We share wonderful potluck luncheons and fellowship at each other's homes. We occasionally have a program with a speaker but are just as likely to not have a program and just enjoy being with each other. We have no other agenda other than fellowship and friendship among the women of Christ Church. We have a freewill offering each month and as that money builds up we have the delight of "giving it away" to a worthy cause.
So, if you are looking for a group that will not ask you to commit yourself other than to just being there to share food and talk, this is the Guild for you. Please look for our upcoming meeting places. They will always be published in the weekly pew bulletin, in the Communicator, and on the Events page of the website. We would love to have you join us!

YOUNG ADULTS
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Young adults are invited to attend Theology on Tap. This monthly gathering is a speaker and discussion series which takes place in the relaxed setting of the Coronado Brewing Company. Topics focus on faith and contemporary issues that directly affect the lives of adults in their 20s and 30s.
The goal is to provide a forum for young adults to discuss their faith in a casual social setting, and to form new friendships in the process. This month's topic will be "Christian ethics in everyday life." Join us on Thursday, October 6 at 7:00 p.m., as we discuss the practice of our faith at home, among friends, and in the workplace.
