Feb. 13, 2018 Shower the People You LOVE with LOVE!

2018 Lenten Drive at Christ Church

Can you imagine going days or even weeks without a shower? This is a very real issue for our brothers and sisters in City Heights who live on the streets. St Mark's provides a vital ministry to these neighbors by offering free showers in our diocesan mobile shower unit, Showers of Blessings, in the St Mark's parking lot twice a month. Christ Church has been supporting this ministry for the past two years by sending volunteers to serve breakfast to these now-squeaky-clean shower clients once a month.

We've decided to deepen our commitment to this vital ministry by selecting it as the focus of our 2018 Lenten Drive. We're hoping to shower St Mark's with love and the funding to support their shower ministry for 1 year. It will cost just under $4000 to fund the program for 2018. This year,  $1200 of that budget will cover the cost of a driver to deliver the unit and set it up. St Mark's has hired a former shower client to take on this job!

Between 2016-2017, St Mark's Showers of Blessings served 164 different people, all of whom are homeless.   Guests are served a simple breakfast, receive free haircuts and hygiene packs. Clean clothes, including socks and underwear are also available. Volunteers set up and welcome guests, clean the showers between each use and distribute clothing. Hair by Joy donates her time twice a month for free haircuts. National University Nursing students often provide health screenings, blood pressure checks and referrals once a month.

Our goal is to raise $4000 to fund the program (including it's new driver!) for one year. Please look for the table in the courtyard the six Sundays of Lent and also at our Lenten Wednesday night suppers to show your support for this vital ministry. Thank you!
